Every week we seem to hear about innovations in support of vehicle automation, but this latest piece of news is pretty amazing by any standards. Jaguar Land Rover has apparently come up with a method for controlling the operation of windscreen wipers, using the drivers’ eyes. The patent for the technology involved was applied for in 2013, and has just been granted. Basically, the system was initially designed to track the drivers’ eyes, and prevent the driver from falling asleep at the wheel – a truly useful application of technology. However, not content with that, JLR have now announced that they plan to use this technology to cause the rear windscreen wiper to operate when the driver looks in the rear view mirror.
