Frequently asked questions about BMW 2 Series
Are BMW 2 Series any good?
The BMW 2 Series has had fairly mixed reviews, but it is generally a reasonably good car. The Grand Coupé variant has been criticised for being too similar to the 4 Series, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but perhaps lacking a unique style. The Active Tourer, however, has been fairly unpopular, as it aims to be a mini-MPV, a category that is already declining in favour of SUVs.
Why are BMW 2 Series so cheap used?
Used BMW 2 Series may be quite cheap, but there could be many reasons and it varies by model year, variant, mileage, and more. Generally, BMWs are expensive to own and owners may be looking to sell their 2 Series to cut down on costs. Moreover, many 2 Series variants such as the Active Tourer were fairly unpopular to begin with and prospective buyers may see little value in them.
Is BMW discontinuing the 2 Series?
Although not yet confirmed as of 2025, it is rumoured that BMW will discontinue the 2 Series Active Tourer in late 2027, earlier than the planned date of 2029. The Gran Tourer and Grand Coupé variants may be discontinued in 2029.
Is BMW 2 Series fuel efficient?
It depends which BMW 2 Series variant you’re driving. The M240i xDrive, for example has a 32.1 mpg rating on WLPT tests, whereas real-world fuel economy data for the 2022 and 2023 have around 29.2 and 27.6 mpg, respectively. Models like the 220i and 230i, for comparison, have around 40.1 and 39.8 mpg fuel economy, respectively.
Is the BMW 2 Series fast?
The BMW 2 Series, depending on trim, is a fairly fast car. A baseline 220i M Sport, for example has a 0-62 mph of around 7.5 seconds; a M240i xDrive can achieve 0-62 mph in around 4.3 seconds. Top speeds vary from around 146 to 155 mph.
